Monee Liquor Depot – Mae’s Backyard BBQ development
[2017-03-22] The Monee Village Board gave approval for a development agreement with Monee Liquor Depot and Mae’s Backyard BBQ. This is a great example of the village working with existing businesses to strive toward a more attractive and functional commercial area while helping to recruit new businesses to fill vacancies and provide additional retail options.
Paul Kalaria has been a Monee resident and business owner for many years, he has enjoyed serving the clientele of Monee Liquor Depot but his building lacked the contemporary curb appeal and signage to adequately draw new customers. He also had about half of his building that has been virtually vacant. Mayor Farquhar and staff worked with Paul and his developer to pursue some much needed plans for improvement.
The vacant north end of Paul’s building was a challenge that didn’t take long to overcome. Mayor Farquhar had reached out to Nichole and Lamar Cato of Monee last summer when he heard of their great food and interest in opening a restaurant. The Cato’s take pride in their inspiration being from Mae, Nichole’s mom and they look forward to opening Mae’s Backyard BBQ in the newly improved space.
