COVID-19 Not a Threat to Monee Drinking Water

The Village of Monee employs three full time IEPA certified water operators, who monitor water quality 365 days a year.  As a normal practice, chlorine is applied to drinking water to prevent contamination from viruses and bacteria.  Chlorine levels are continuously monitored to ensure that water at every tap is safe for drinking, cooking, and washing.

EPA has established regulations with treatment requirements for public water systems that prevent waterborne pathogens such as viruses from contaminating drinking water and wastewater. Coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, is a type of virus that is particularly susceptible to disinfection and standard treatment and disinfectant processes are expected to be effective.
